Road Trip - Day16 & 17

We bid farewell to El Paso and the famous Camino Real hotel. You can see the rooftop where the locals watched the battles in the Mexican American conflict.

And we arrive at our new "digs", a B&B on The Riverwalk in San Antonio (not Santa Fe)
We head down the Riverwalk to find our dinner. This is the San Antonio River which has been diverted through the city and the stores and restaurants as well as hotels have built around it...unbelievable.

Of course the wildlife has made their homes there too...anyone know what kind of a bird this is?

Monday a.m. and we head through the riverwalk to our most important site...I have wanted to see this all of my life.  Know what it is????REMEMBER THE ALAMO!

Nancy studies the layout of the fort

This the sleeping quarters of the fort, one of the original buildings which was saved from demolition, along with the famous mission front.

We then left, went through a large downtown mall and headed back to the riverwalk for lunch. We found the Lone Star restaurant right on the sidewalk. To our surprise we found that there are "panhandlers" among the wildlife.

Aaah, but here was a lovely couple out for a swim.

Our server was super...took great care of us.

Whoa...not only are there panhandlers among the wildlife, there are also thieves! Or maybe a new kind od clean up crew.

Headed back to room for a rest from the humidity (100 degrees). Then we headed down the riverwalk the other way to a restaurant that several said was one of the best in town.

We cut through the "King Edward" section of town. We saw some homes that at one time were very stately.

We arrived at our destination...Rosario's. AWESOME food! A gem in a decaying part of town with a great history. We really enjoyed the dinner.

We decided to go through more of these once proud homes. It was gratifying to see that there were several homes going through refinishing...here are a couple.

 This one on the riverwalk.

Went to B&B to retire after a very interesting and satisfying day (except for our feet).
See ya tomorrow...

  1. I am enjoying "traveling" with you two! Katie is moving to Uvalde, near San Antonio a few days after her wedding August 6! Nice to see some pics!
